Continuum Legacy is here!
Legacy
As many of you may be aware, Continuum Legacy’s first Alpha build went out at the end of January. It’s accessible to anyone with a Continuum Early Access (or previous Continuum Tier 1, 2, or 3 package). We’re quite proud of the initial Alpha version we’ve brought to Early Access, but as we mentioned before, we have big plans for the future of this shader. It will grow and evolve to even further differentiate itself from Continuum 2.1 in future updates, as well as fixing up some bugs.
Speaking of bugs, one of our Continuum Early Access users already found a little issue with cloud/terrain rendering over ~200 blocks up, and we’ve added it to our issue tracker. With any luck that will be fixed and packed up into a new build for February. We’ve also added a new webhook to our Discord to show GitLab activity on Legacy for Discord users that redeem their Continuum Early Access roles and wish to follow development updates and known issues a bit more closely!
Here’s a few shots of that initial release (first image uses Stratum, second uses Patrix, and the rest are Vanilla textures):
Focal Engine
On the Focal front, we’ve made considerable progress on our development environment updates (the same ones we mentioned we were taking on to hopefully enable faster Focal updates in general). This has enabled us to push forward and make some progress on getting new game versions spun up, as well as some other bonuses that we are not yet ready to announce. Hopefully we can share more on that front soon.
On another note, we identified an issue with the recent Focal 1.0.9 release, for 1.20.1 specifically, that is causing users to be logged out when closing their games. This is not intended behavior. We’ve patched this issue and are currently doing final testing on it. Once complete, we’ll be hotfixing the 1.0.9 version for 1.20.1 specifically, and anyone affected will be able to redownload and swap that version of Focal to resolve the issue. We’ll make an announcement on our socials when this hotfix is live, so keep a lookout for that.
Stratum
We split our time with this Stratum update between fleshing out a few higher profile / more complex blocks, like Netherite and the Beacon, as well as pushing even harder into item textures, with a few more plant related items and ingots. We also updated the maximum pack version to enable official support for Minecraft 1.21.3. 1.21.4 is not yet supported due to no stable build of Optifine being available at this time, though some versions of Stratum may still function on 1.21.4.
Expect more items and a few of the remaining complex blocks in future updates!
Oh, and all the images in the gallery below are using Continuum Legacy Alpha Build 1, if anyone was curious how Stratum looks with the new shader!

Shorter blog this month, but still some decent updates in our opinion! Decided to leave the devs be since most of us are still working off the Holiday funk and getting back into the swing of things. Especially since it’s been a particularly busy start of the year all around; getting all these updates and releases out, while also juggling tax time, and the updates to our dev environments / Focal in the background.
Once things settle a bit, we’ll get some more updates direct from the devs for you guys though. Till then, thanks for your continued support!
